Title:
VERY-HIGH-SPEED OPTICAL TRANSMITTING METHOD USING QUASISOLITON IN FIBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3821890
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a very-high-speed optical transmitting method that can use a quasisoliton in a fiber, which can prevent pulses from spreading owing to dispersion, by using chirping (effect of variation in frequency in pulse) for an input pulse and then making an equivalent potential that a chirp generates assist the soliton effect.
SOLUTION: A nonlinear pulse (quasisoliton) having the stationary structure similar to that of a soliton is generated by relating dispersion characteristics of the fiber to a programmed chirp (frequency varying with time). This quasisoliton has small interaction and more attractive properties than the soliton since it has small peak electric power. Consequently, transmission of 100 gigabits per second over 180 dispersion distance is enabled without using very large electric power.
