To provide a method for obtaining many polypeptides usable for creation of a source of chemical variety usable for retrieval of biological activities by repeating the operations of exposing a selected region on the surface of a substrate to an activator to carry out deprotection, and exposing the deprotected selected region to a monomer containing a protective group.
This method is the one for producing various chemical sequences at the known position on the surface of a single substrate, and obtained by repeating one or more times of steps comprising exposing a selected region on the surface of the substrate to an activator to remove a protective group, further exposing the deprotected first region to a monomer having the protective group, by using the selected region and the selected monomer. The selected region at each repeating step is the same region as the one at the preceding step, a partially overlapping region or a different region, and the selected monomer at each repeating step is the same monomer as the one at the preceding step, or the one different from the preceding one. The selected region and the selected monomer at each of the steps are selected so as to synthesize various sequences on the substrate.
