To provide a very low temperature refrigerating device capable of performing a highly efficient operation according to the variation of a refrigerating load.
This very low temperature refrigerating device comprises a shield plate 16 for stopping the entry of a radiant heat into a superconducting magnet 90, a helium refrigerator 20 generating liquid helium and having a pre-cooling refrigerator 30 pre-cooling helium gas, and a nitrogen refrigerator 40 cooling nitrogen in a nitrogen tank 15. When a vehicle is running, a low stage side compressor 21 and a high stage side compressor 22 are driven to operate the helium refrigerator 20 and the nitrogen refrigerator 40. When the vehicle is stopped, the operation of the pre-cooling refrigerator 30 of the helium refrigerator 20 is stopped, and the operation of the nitrogen refrigerator 40 is continued.
