Title:
VIBRATING GYROSCOPE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2542983
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To detect even a minute angular velocity in high sensitivity and in high accuracy by applying the free vibration of a vibrating means in correspondence with damping, keeping the amplitude in the X-axis direction approximately constant, detecting the displacement amount in the Y-axis direction, and operating the angular velocity.
CONSTITUTION: Forced vibration is applied to a vibrator 12, which is freely vibrated in the X-axis direction, with a driving piezoelectric element 14 at the approximately equal resonant frequency of the vibrator 12 in the X-axis direction. The amplitude of the vibration is kept approximately constant. When an angular velocity (w) is inputted, the Coriolis force corresponding to the velocity is generated in the Y-axis direction. The displacement is detected with a Y-axis-displacement detecting piezoelectric element 18. Then, an angular- velocity operating means outputs the input angular velocity. At this time, the displacement amounts in the Y-axis direction art accumulated in the free vibrating period. Therefore, the very large amplitude in the Y-axis direction in comparison with the vibrating gyroscope based on forced vibration is obtained. Thus the minute angular velocity can be detected in high accuracy.
