A vibration roller comprises a chassis supported by one or more drum assemblies including an excitation assembly for compressing a ground when it moves. The vibration roller is operated via a number of drive and excitation motors driven by a series of hybrid drive systems. The series of hybrid drive systems are configured so as to include an engine and a generator and add power to the systems in a nominal operation condition. The series of hybrid drive systems include further a power storage system such as a battery bank or a capacitor bank for supplying additional power to the motors while a peak power is required.
