PURPOSE: To provide a shaft vibration damping damper where applicable temperature is not restricted by ambient temperature.
CONSTITUTION: This vibration damping damper 24 for a rotation shaft 10 is provided with a floating housing 26 attached to the shaft which is vibrationally- displacable radially as a unit, a plurality of cylindrical bores 42 mounted in the floating housing parallel to the rotational axis 16 of the shaft, and a plurality of smaller cylindrical impactors 46 retained in the corresponding bores in a movable condition. The respect impactors are formed out of metal sleeves 50 including a smaller cylindrical tungsten rod 54 therein in a movable condition and filling a damping medium around the rod. When the shaft is vibrationally- displaced radially, the damping medium is squeezed from between the tungsten rods 54 and the corresponding sleeves 50, the tungsten rods impact the corresponding walls of bores through the sleeves, and local plastic deformation occurs to absorb energy, thus it is possible to damp oscillation.
