To provide a vibration damping device of special structure as a novel means for enhancing the rigidity of a vehicle without requiring a great increase in body weight and addition of a special reinforcing member.
The vibration damping device 10 including a fluid chamber 48 filled with a viscous fluid inside with at least a part of a wall part being formed of a rubber elastic body 16, is mounted between an opening/closing body 56 and a body 54 and elastically deformed abutting on the body 54 or the opening/closing body 56. An internal protrusion 50 is provided projecting into the fluid chamber 48 from a portion (28) formed of the rubber elastic body 16 in the wall part, and the moving direction of the internal protrusion 50 following elastic deformation is a direction different from the moving direction of an abutting part 25 toward the body 54 or the opening/closing body 56.
