To provide a vibration isolation structure which has a very simple entire mechanism, can effectively absorb even large vibrations, and is implemented at a very low installation cost.
The vibration isolation structure is constructed by arranging a building lower end 2 on a foundation 1 in a horizontally movable manner, and by interposing elastic bodies 3 between the building lower end 2 and the foundation 1. Each elastic body 3 has its first end 3A fixed to the building lower end 2 and its second end 3B fixed to the foundation 1. The elastic body 3 has a predetermined length, has the second end 3B fixed to the foundation 1 at a location away from the first end 3A, and in this state the elastic body 3 is bent or curved so as to make the first end 3A movable in a free direction in a horizontal plane on an upper surface of the foundation 1. According to the structure, the building lower end 2 which is arranged on the foundation 1 so as to be movable in the horizontal plane, is connected to the foundation 1 by the elastic bodies 3, and allowed to elastically move in the horizontal plane in a limited moving range.
