To select a vibration waveform suitable for cutting work of microfine deep holes or the like from among a large number of vibration waveforms.
When performing the cutting work of a workpiece by applying vibration between a cutting tool and the workpiece, a vibration waveform defined by a cutting time ratio Rc or a positive velocity time ratio Rv is used as the vibration waveform for use in driving an actuator for applying vibration. The cutting time ratio Rc represents the percentage of a cutting time to all drive time, and a smaller ratio is better. Preferably, when selecting the vibration waveform in which a minimum value of the cutting time ratio Rc in an amplitude ratio of 10 or less becomes 0.28 or less, the time when a cutting edge of a drill 10 is separated from the workpiece 12 becomes long, and thereby the cooling of the cutting edge can be expected. The positive velocity time ratio Rv represents a ratio of time in which the vibration velocity to the cutting time becomes positive, and a larger ratio is better. Preferably, when selecting a vibration waveform in which a maximum value of the positive velocity time ratio Rv in an amplitude ratio of 10 or less becomes 0.80 or more, the reduction of the cutting resistance can be expected.
