PURPOSE: To effectively use irradiation light and to expand observation distance by synchronizing the irradiation timing of illumination light from right and left illumination optical systems with the timing of right and left image pickup means, and irradiating the irradiation light only when image pickup is performed.
CONSTITUTION: When observation by an endoscope is performed, right and left solid-image pickup elements 8, 10 are driven by right and left CCD driving circuits 15, 16 based on a synchroncs, signal outputted from a synchronous signal generator 20. When a 3D video is photographed, the switching operation of an optical path switching mirror 26 in a light source device is performed by synchronous with the operation timing of the right and left solid-image pickup elements 8, 10 based on the synchronous signal outputted from the synchronous signal generator 20. The timing of the illumination light from the right and left illumination optical systems 5, 6 are controlled fitting in image pickup operations of the right and left solid-image pickup elements 8, 10. Right and left video signals, after subjecting signal-processing at a signal processing circuit 18, are supplied to a 3D monitor 19. Right and left videos are displayed on the screen of the 3D monitor 19.
