To provide a video display device suitable for reducing influence of a change in a diffraction angle due to the heat shrink of a photopolymer.
The video display device includes: a display element for displaying an image; a light guide member on which the image displayed at the display element is made incident; a first transmissive or reflective HOE (Holographic Optical Element) for totally reflecting the image incident on the light guide member inside the light guide member and diffracting it so as to propagate it to a prescribed position; and a second transmissive or reflective HOE for diffracting the image propagated to the prescribed position toward the pupil of a user. In the first or second transmissive or reflective HOE, the diffraction angle on design is designed to be at least a prescribed angle so that the ratio of the change in the diffraction angle due to the heat shrink of a recording layer is settled to be a prescribed ratio or lower.
