The video display system includes: a video display device having a retardation film and a video display panel on which a plurality of first and second linear retardation functional regions alternately formed; a means for displaying a single 3D image by sequentially displaying a first sub-frame image which comprises a first image for a right eye formed in a region corresponding to one of the first and second linear retardation functional regions and a first image for a left eye formed in the other region, and a second sub-frame image which comprises a second image for a right eye formed in a region corresponding to one of the first and second linear retardation functional regions and a second image for a left eye formed in the other region (wherein the second image for a right eye comprises an image not displayed in the first image for the right eye of the image for the right eye in the 3D image, and similarly, the second image for the left eye comprises an image not displayed in the first image for the left eye); and polarizing spectacles including a right spectacle through which the first and second images for the right eye are visible, and a left spectacle through which the first and second images for the left eye are visible.
