In the video monitoring system for monitoring video images photographed by monitoring cameras 30 and 32, position/direction information detection modules 34 and 36 give control data for grasping photographing positions and photographing directions of the cameras. In such a case, the camera sides receive radio waves from a plurality of radio base stations 10 to 20 arranged around the respective monitoring cameras, obtain information of radio wave receiving strength of each of IDs of the radio base stations 10 to 20, and generate control data. A monitoring server 50 collects the control data from the monitoring cameras, specifies the monitoring cameras and their positions, and associates the addresses of transmission sources of the control data with information of the positions and directions included in the control data to register them in a database.
