To provide a video telephone system which enables users to communicate with each other looking at each other.
On the light plate 31 of a liquid crystal display 12, a hole 31a is formed at a position of displaying the right eye of a communicating party and a camera 15 is attached behind it. Image data received by a communication part 38 are read by an eye detection part 42 and both eyes of the communicating party are detected. The coordinate transformation of the image data is performed in a coordinate transformation processing part 43 so that the position coordinates of the right eye of the communicating party matches with the attaching position of the camera 15. The image data are transferred to a frame memory 46, and the image of the communicating party is displayed at a liquid crystal display part 30. At the time, for the part to display the right eye of the communicating party at the liquid crystal display part 30, a display state and a transparent state are switched in synchronism with the moving image photographing of the camera 15. The image data photographed by the camera 15 are transmitted through an image signal processing part 36 and a compression/expansion processing part 37 to the video telephone system 22 through the Internet 20 by a communication part 38.
