Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a copolymer useful as a binder resin that is good in dispersion of fine ferromagnetic powder, has excellent compatibility with polyurethane resin, and can give coating films excellent in durability and abrasion resistance, by making the copolymer a copolymer comprising vinyl chloride units, ester or ether monomer units and phosphato-containing monomer units. SOLUTION: The copolymer is a copolymer comprising vinyl chloride units (A), monomer units (B) selected among-(CH2 -CH(OCOR<1> ))-, -(CH2 CX(COOR<1> ))-, -((R<1> OOC)CH-CH(COOR<2> ))- and -(CH2 -CH(OR<3> ))(wherein R<1> , R<2> and R<3> are each a 1-18C alkyl; and X is H or methyl) and phosphato-containing monomer units (C) selected among formulas I, II, III and IV (wherein R is a 2-18C alkyl; and n is 0-30) is selected. Usually, this copolymer comprises 50-95 wt.% units A, 0.5-40 wt.% units B and 1-30 wt.% units C.
