PURPOSE: To obtain a vinyl halide latex compsn. composed of a vinyl halide latex copolymer containing a small and effective amt. of copolymerizable monomer group and having stability and durability and useful for a coating material compsn.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymerizable monomer content of a latex copolymer of a vinyl halide monomer (pref., vinyl chloride) in an amount of 60-99.4 wt.%, 0.1-2 wt.% polyethylenic unsaturated monomer (pref., triarylacyanurate), arbitrarily, 0.2-2 wt.% epoxy-containing monomer and 1-6 wt.% α-olefin (pref., ethylene) are polymerized in water at 25-90°C in the presence of a polymeric surfactant (pref., an acid functional acrylic polymer neutralized by a base) and a free radical initiator to obtain a vinyl halide latex compsn. especially suitable for a coating material compsn.
