Abstract:
PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a macromonomer having a high proportion of vinyl groups and excellent in polymn. characteristics by copolymerizing ethylene and propylene in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A transition metal compd. of formula I (wherein R5C5 is a hydrocarbon-substd. pentadienyl group; R is 1-20C alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or alkaryl; M is Zr or Hf; X is H or halogen; and R is 1-20C alkoxy, aryloxy, etc.), a compd. which reacts with the transition metal compd. to form a complex and/or aluminoxane, and an organoaluminum compd. are combined to give a catalyst. Ethylene and propylene are copolymerized in a ratio of (0.5:1)-(5:1) in the presence of the catalyst to give a vinyl-terminated ethylene-propylene copolymer of formula II [wherein the ratio of m/(m+n) and n/(m+n) are 0.001-0.5 and 0.5-0.999, respectively] having a number-average mol.wt. of at least 500 and a ratio of the vinyl group to the vinylidene group of at least 6.
