Abstract:
To provide a viscosity index improver and a lubricant composition containing the same, wherein the viscosity index improver has a high viscosity index and good solubility in an engine oil to which an essential additive is added, and a lubricating oil supplemented with the viscosity index improver has an excellent low temperature viscosity at -40°C.SOLUTION: The viscosity index improver comprises a copolymer (A) and a base oil, wherein the copolymer (A) contains a polyolefin-based monomer (a1) represented by a general formula (1) and a polyolefin-based monomer (a2) represented by a general formula (2) as constituent monomers, the copolymer (A) contains 1 to 14 wt.% of (a1) and 1 to 14 wt.% of (a2) based on total weight of the monomers constituting (A) as constituent monomers, and an absolute value of difference in solubility parameter between the copolymer (A) and the base oil is 0.8 to 2.0 (cal/cm3)1/2.SELECTED DRAWING: None
