Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viscosity index improver that realizes excellent shear stability and low HTHS viscosity of a lubricant composition and hardly increases low-temperature viscosity of the lubricant composition.SOLUTION: The viscosity index improver contains a (co)polymer (A) comprising as an essential constituent monomer a monomer (a) represented by the following formula (1) and the monomer (a). [Ris each independently H or a methyl group; -X- is a group represented by -O-, -O(AO)- or -NH-; A is a 2-4C linear or branched alkylene group; m is an integer of 1 to 10, and when m is 2 or more, A may be the same or different; the (AO)portion may be a random bond or a block bond; Ris a polymer residue obtained by removing one H from a hydrocarbon polymer comprising an isobutylene or 1,2-butylene as an essential constitutional unit; and p is a number of 0 or 1].
