Abstract:
To provide a new viscosity index improving agent for lubricating oil useful as a lubricating oil additive.
The viscosity index improving agent for lubricating oil is composed of a graft copolymer containing a polyolefin macromonomer (A) containing (meth)acryloyl group in the terminal group of a polyolefin chain P and expressed by general formula (I) or (II) (R1 and R2 are each independently hydrogen atom or methyl; and P is a polymer chain obtained by the homopolymerization or copolymerization of an olefin expressed by CH2=CHR3 (R3 is a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, hydrogen atom or a halogen atom)). The invention further provides a lubricating oil composition containing the viscosity index improving agent for lubricating oil.
