Abstract:

To provide a viscous heater installing method whereby a quantity of heat matching the filled rate of a viscous fluid can be secured even if the filled rate is small, in the viscous heater generating heat mainly from the shear of the viscous heater existing between the peripheral surface of a rotor and a wall surface opposite thereto.

An upper housing 3 and a lower housing 4 are arranged with an intermediate housing 1 and a cylinder block 2 between them, and a spiral water jacket 8 is formed between the outer peripheral surface of the cylinder block 2 and the inner peripheral surface of the intermediate housing 1. A rotor 11 is rotatably enclosed in the cylinder block 2 constituting a heating chamber 10 and is rotatably supported against the upper housing 3 and the lower housing 4 via a drive shaft 16 and a driven shaft 17. A bevel gear 20 is integrally rotatably secured to the drive shaft 16. A viscous heater is installed in an engine room, with the bevel gear 20 meshing with a bevel gear 23 secured to an external drive shaft 22, and with the rotor 11 extending in the vertical direction.
