PURPOSE: To provide a vise in which the movable jaw can be moved quickly and removal of chips generated as when a workpiece clamped is machined can be effected easily and in a short time.
CONSTITUTION: A guide rail 14 provided in a device main body 10 is provided at its side face with fixed claw parts 48 aligned in the longitudinal direction of the guide rail, and a slide member 28 which is guided by the guide rail 14 and moved integrally with a movable jaw is disposed on the side of the movable jaw opposite to a fixed jaw in such a way that the slide member 28 extends across the guide rail 14. Further, the slide member 28 is provided with movable claw parts 50 capable of engaging with the fixed claw parts 49, and is provided with operating mechanisms 64, 74, 80 which force the movable claw parts 50 into and out of engagement with the fixed claw parts 48.
