PURPOSE: To provide a video telephone system provided with a standard television receiver and a camera for consumer in a terminal equipment by providing one of a calling origin means and a calling destination means with a cable television distribution network and providing the other with the one other than the distribution network. CONSTITUTION: This system is constituted of the calling origin means 121, 122 and 140 for transmitting video telephone signals from calling origin video telephone locations 101 and 110 to a first connection point 161, a digital telephone exchange network 160 for route-specifying the signals from the first connection point to a second connection point 162 and the calling destination means 126, 127 and 145 for transmitting the video telephone signals from the second connection point to the calling origin video telephone locations 115 and 105. Then, the terminal equipment is provided with the standard television receivers 103 and 106 functioning as the display of voice and video images and the cameras 102 and 107 for the consumer functioning as the signal sources of the voice and the video images.
