Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a novel vitamin D compound which may be satisfactorily obtained from easily usable or available starting materials and is useful in the treatment of autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases, diseases based on abnormal cell differentiation, or the like.
CONSTITUTION: The vitamin D compound of formula I (wherein R1 represents H or OH; R2 represents a 1-3C alkyl, hydroxy 1-3C alkyl, 1-2C alkoxymethyl, 2-3C alkenyl or 2-3C alkinyl; R3 has at least 3 atoms at the main chain and represents a straight or branched chain of a saturated or non-saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group or a divalent oxahydrocarbon group having 3 to 5 carbon atoms which may be optionally substituted by one or more substituents selected form epoxy, F and OH; R4 represents a sec- or tert-3-6C alkyl or 3-6C cycloalkyl; A and B are each H, methyl or methylene formed together with), is provided. The compound of the formula I wherein R1 is OH is provided by reacting a compound of formula II (wherein R5 represents a protected OH; R6 represents a 1-6C alkyl) with a compound of formula III (wherein X represents Cl, Br or I; M represents Li or Mg; p is of 0 or 1).
