PURPOSE: To obtain a voice reply device with excellent handling performance by applying automatic voice synthesis to a voice message in response to the time band at the arrival of a call via a telephone line and outputting the reply via the telephone line.

CONSTITUTION: When a call via a telephone line 2 is detected, a document file corresponding to the time band including an arrival call detection time is selected by a time designation file 7 according to the time information at the detection of the arrival of call and the voice message information (character string) registered in the document file is read and given to a voice rule synthesis section 9, where the information is synthesized in voice and the result is outputted as a voice reply via the telephone line 2. Thus, a timely voice message is replied and outputted without any complicated device operation.
