To provide an agent for highly effectively removing volatile harmful materials such as formaldehyde even in an environment of high humidity, and further which is high active, which has a long life, and in which the cost is reduced without using any highly expensive noble metal.
An active carbon nanofiber (adsorbent or catalyst carrier) with shallow pores which minimizes the influence of inhibiting adsorption of steam is prepared. On a carrier comprising the active carbon nanofiber, a metal oxide as a catalyst, in particular manganese oxide is high-dispersed in a nano size, and further is optimized, so that the volatile harmful materials such as formaldehyde are made to adsorb onto the active carbon nanofiber at high concentration, and are succeedingly decomposed by oxidation with metal oxide nanoparticles of high activity and a low cost, and whereby the agent for removing volatile harmful materials and a method for the same are designed which can remove the volatile harmful materials such as formaldehyde even in the case of an environment of high humidity.
