PURPOSE: To attain the alternative recording between the video and sound signals on a video track by deciding the presence or absence of the video signal input and switching automatically the reference signal to be supplied to a servo circuit to a signal or its related signal which is synchronous with the synchronizing signal contained in the video signal.

CONSTITUTION: The sound signal sent from a sound signal source 1 is applied to an FM modulating circuit 7; while the video signal supplied from a video signal source 2 is applied to a video processing circuit 9 as well as to a separating circuit 10 which separates a synchronizing signal. One of vertical synchronizing signal supplied from the circuit 10 is applied to a deciding circuit 13 and another signal is applied to a transmitting circuit 14. The circuit 13 delivers a decision output only in case the synchronizing signal exists and at the same time a VTR device is set in a record mode. The circuit 14 delivers an oscillation signal which is driven synchronously with the vertical synchronizing signal. An oscillation signal generating circuit 23 always delivers an oscillation signal of 60Hz independently of an oscillation circuit 20. A switch circuit 21 selects the output of the circuit 14 when the decision output given from the circuit exists and then the output of the circuit 23 when said decision output does not exist and supplies the selected output to a servo circuit 26.
