PURPOSE: To obtain natural and stable reproduced picture by providing plural heads reproducing plural tracks at the same time and outputting sequentially and selectively the video signals reproduced at the same time from plural heads at the variable speed reproduction so as to keep the continuity of the picture.
CONSTITUTION: The video signal recorded on each track is reproduced at the same time by two heads HRP, HP scanning adjacent tracks at the same time in the reproducing system 20. Thus, when the one head HRP reproduces the 1st 1/4 field, the other head HP reproduces the 3rd 1/4 field and they are shifted sequentially. Reproducing signals SRP, SP are applied to a switching circuit 23 via amplifiers 21, 22 and switched so as to keep the continuity of the picture. Then, the output detects the width of the horizontal synchronizing pulse dfferent at 1/2 field via an FM demodulator 24 and the output is compared with a reference pulse REF.P at a comparator 26 so as to switch the switching circuit.
