PURPOSE: To perform a training which is close to an actual walking in a less space without requiring an assistant by a method wherein the driving means for a belt is controlled based on a detected value of a belt speed detecting means when a walking is trained by kicking the belt backward, and a driving means which changes a walking surface device to a horizontal or tilted attitude is provided.
CONSTITUTION: A walking surface device 4 is mounted on the top of a movable bed 3, and an actuator which changes the position and attitude of the walking surface device is provided between the walking surface device 4 and movable bed 3. A handicapped person U walks while standing on an annular belt which is exposed on the upper surface of the walking surface device 4 and becomes an endless road. Also, an assisting means 5 which is arranged on the walking surface device 4 supports the shoulder and hip of the handicapped person U to hold the attitude of the handicapped person U, and an image display device 6a is fitted on the head of the handicapped person U. The walking surface device can change the position and attitude to a floor surface F, and the handicapped person U can experience displacements in the advancing direction, lateral direction, and vertical direction, and displacement for which these directions are compounded, and the tilt of a road surface such as an uphill road, etc.
