To reduce replenishing water after ending water supply by making it easy for laundry inside a rotary drum to absorb water at the time of the water supply and to improve water level detection accuracy in a washing machine for supplying the water to a prescribed water level inside a water receiving tub including the rotary drum and executing washing.
The rotary drum having a rotary shaft in a roughly horizontal direction or a roughly inclined direction is included in the water receiving tub, the rotary drum is driven by a motor 5, the water is supplied into the water receiving tub by a water supply valve 11, the water level inside the water receiving tub is detected by a water level detection means 12, and the motor 5 and the water supply valve 11 are controlled by a control means 14 to which the output of the water level detection means 12 is inputted. The control means 14 detects the water level at every first prescribed interval of time by the water level detection means 12 during the rotation of the rotary drum and defines a moving average deviation obtained at every second prescribed interval time as the water level inside the water receiving tub.
