PURPOSE: To provide a washing method of a car washing machine which can prevent the accident of causing damage to a vehicle to be washed as a result of delay in conveying by a conveyor when the vehicle to be washed is a station wagon or a jeep.

CONSTITUTION: When a vehicle to be washed is a station wagon 5', the arm 31 of a top brush 12 is forcibly raised to an upper-limit position at the detection of the arm 31 by a middle-limit (intermediate) position detector 50; when the vehicle to be washed is a jeep 5", the arm 31 of the top brush 12 is forcibly raised to the upper limit position at the detection of the arm 31 by the middle- limit (intermediate) position detector 50 when the top brush 12 is temporarily raised at the timing for reaching a front windshield and then lowered. If the shift of the vehicle 5 to be washed has been retarded, the top brush 12 is forcibly raised so that the accident of causing damage by the top brush 12 to the vehicle 5 to be washed can be avoided.
