PURPOSE: To omit transferring process from a harvesting basket to a shipping basket of vegetables and to contrive to wash vegetables efficiently, by storing harvested vegetables in baskets with the side of the roots of the vegetables laid outside, transporting the vegetables as they are in the basket to a washer and washing the root side in the basket.

CONSTITUTION: Harvested vegetables 8 are bound into a proper bundle and packed into a storing basket 1 with the roots outside outside, for example, downward. The basket 1 is transported to a washer 4, placed on a conveyor 7. When the basket 1 reaches the upper part of a nozzle 5 by the movement of the conveyor 7, pressurized water is jetted from the nozzle 5, hit through the meshes of the conveyor 7 to the roots to wash the roots. The basket 1 is transported by the movement of the conveyor 7, the vegetables are dehydrated and shipped. When the vegetables are horizontally piled in the basket 1 and packed in the basket with putting the roots facing the side, the nozzle 5 is set sideways and the pressurized water may be horizontally jetted.
