To produce a waste gas cleaning catalyst capable of satisfactorily burning and removing particulates at the temperature of waste gas and excellent in waste gas cleaning performance and to obtain waste gas cleaning material capable of thoroughly burning and removing particulates and very excellent in durability and profitability.
The waste gas cleaning catalyst contains a first catalyst of at least one inorganic oxide selected from Ta2O5, Nb2O5, WO3, SnO2, SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3 and ZrO2 and at least one noble metal selected from Pt, Pd, Rh and Ru and carried on the inorganic oxide and a second catalyst of a mixture of the oxide of at least one transition metal selected from Cu, Mn, Co, V, Mo and W with the sulfate of at least one alkali metal selected from Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs.
