To provide a method and an apparatus wherein a combustible substance such as waste and coal is gasified, and product gas is produced which contains a large amount of combustible fractions capable of melting an ash fraction by its self heat quantity for melting combustion.
In a method for gasifying waste in a fluidized bed furnace 2 and then melting an ash fraction in a melting furnace 2, the waste is supplied to the fluidized bed furnace 2 and is gasified into gas and char, and any non- combustible substance contained in the waste and a fluid medium are discharged to a furnace bottom of the fluidized bed 2. After large non-combustible substances are removed from the discharged non-combustible substance and the fluid medium, fine non-combustible substances are classified and removed, and the classified fluid medium is returned to the fluidized bed furnace 2, and further gas and char discharged from the fluidized bed furnace 2 are supplied to a melting furnace 41 to melt the ash fraction.
