PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wastewater treatment method that, in a waste water treatment process in which a membrane separation treatment is performed while or after subjecting the wastewater to a biological treatment, allows for suppression of transmembrane pressure difference in a membrane module to a low level even when treating a wastewater having high CODand containing heavy metals.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for treating wastewater having CODof 3000 mg/L to 10000 mg/L and a heavy metal concentration of 0.1 wt.ppm to 200 wt.ppm. The method comprises (1) a step of reducing the heavy metal concentration, (2) a membrane separation step of carrying out solid-liquid separation by means of a membrane module while or after performing a biological treatment, and (3) a washing step of washing the membrane module. The washing step comprises a hypochlorite washing step and an acid cleaning step in this order.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
