To provide an absorbent resin which has a high water absorptivity under pressure, and to provide an absorbent article formed thereof.

The absorbent resin uses the water absorbent resin which is characterized in that (1) a 5-minute water absorption under a pressure is 10-35 g/g, (2) a 5-minute water absorption under a pressure is 5-30 g/g, and a water retentivity is 30-70 g/g. The absorbent article having a surface sheet of liquid permeability, a back sheet of liquid impermeability and an absorbent layer provided between the both sheets, is provided with an absorbent layer (C) containing the above water absorbent resin (A) and with an absorbent layer (D) containing a water-absorbent resin (B) which has a water absorption rate of 1-30 sec., and a water retentivity of 20-43 g/g and a content ratio of particles having a particle diameter of 150 μm or less relative to the weight of all particles of 0-3.0%, with the (C) being located in piles at the surface sheet side and the (D) being located in piles at the back sheet side.
