Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water absorbent high in water-absorbing capacity, good in gel stability after absorbing body fluid, thus suitable as a hygienic material, consisting of a water-absorbing resin produced by using a specific copolymerizing component in polymerizing an acid group-bearing water-soluble radical-polymerizable monomer.
SOLUTION: This water absorbent consists of a water-absorbing resin produced by radical copolymerization of (A) an acid group (salt)bearing water-soluble radical-polymerizable monomer (e.g. maleic acid, vinylsulfonic acid) and, according as necessary, (B) a polysaccharide (e.g. starch) in the presence of water, using (C) a crosslinking agent (pref. N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide) and also (D) 0.0001-1wt.%, based on the component A, of a radical-polymerizable double bond-contg. thiol compound as another copolymerizing component [pref. a (meth)acrylomercaptan of the formula, CH2=C(R1)CH2SH (R1 is H or CH3)]. It is preferable that 3-20wt.% of the component B and 0.01-2wt.% of the component C are used based on the component A.
