To obtain the subject composition capable of affording a composite material having water-absorbing surface resistant to adherence of fine water droplets like steam by including an inorganic alkoxide, a water-absorbing organic polymer, a catalyst and a hydrous organic solvent.
This composition comprises (A) at least one kind among inorganic alkoxides and the corresponding OH group-contg. polymers formed by hydrolysis and polycondensation of the above alkoxides, (B) a water- absorbing organic polymer (pref. ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer or the like), (C) a catalyst (pref. hydrolysis catalyst and curing catalyst), and (D) a hydrous organic solvent, and pref. furthermore, (E) a hydrophilic group-contg. fluorine- based surfactant, a heat ray absorber and a heat storage agent, etc. The other objective water-absorbing composite material is obtained by coating a base material with this composition followed by drying and then heat treatment; this composite material is usable as a mirror for bathrooms, windows for bathrooms, lighting fixture for bathrooms, mirror for washrooms, or the like.
