To provide a water-based coating composition which can form coating films having excellent corrosion resistance on various kinds of metal substrates such as steel plates, galvanized steel plates, and aluminum-plated steel plates without containing a heavy metal.
This water-based coating composition characterized by comprising 100 pts.wt. of a mixture comprising (A) 50 to 95 pts.wt. of at least one kind of water-borne resin selected from water-borne alkyd resins and water- based epoxy ester resins and (B) 5 to 50 pts.wt. of a water-based melamine resin, (C) 0.3 to 15 pts.wt. of a triazole compound, and (D) 3 to 30 pts.wt. of aluminum pigment subjected to a surface treatment for inactivating the pigment against water, and the coated article prepared by coating a metal substrate with the water-based coating composition and then curing the applied coating to form the coating film.
