Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a coating composition containing fine particles having coated structure and dispersed in an aqueous medium, having excellent resistance to staining, especially to a patch of damp and giving an outer-coating material having excellent water-resistance, weather resistance and coating film strength.
CONSTITUTION: This water-based coating composition is composed of an aqueous medium containing fine particles consisting of (A) a water-based resin composed of an ethylenic unsaturated monomer, (B) a water-based colloidal silica and (C) a water-soluble resin composed of a copolymer derived from (i) a radically polymerizable alkoxysilane monomer of formula I [R is H or a ≤3C alkyl; Z is (CH2)n or group of formula II ((n) is integer of 0-3); X is OCH3, 0C2H5, etc.; Y is (CH2)q ((q) is integer of 0-3); (a) is 1, 2 or 3], (ii) a hydrophilic monomer having unsaturated double bond and (iii) an ethylenic unsaturated monomer at weight ratios (A:B:C) of (45-85):(5-25):(10-30). The particle contains the component A and the component B in mixed state as a core and the component C covering the core.
