To provide a water-based coating composition capable of forming a coated film excellent in processability in severe processing, corrosion resistance and resistance to leaving of a film, and also excellent in properties such as adhesion, retorting resistance, scratch resistance, hygiene and flavor-keeping properties.
This water-based coating composition is obtained by reacting an epoxy resin (A) and a carboxyl-containing acrylic resin (B), and neutralizing and dispersing the acryl-modified epoxy resin in an aqueous medium. The epoxy resin (A) consists essentially of at least one kind of resin selected from a composite bisphenol-type epoxy resin (a) obtained by reacting three components of a bisphenol-A type diglycidyl ether epoxy resin, bisphenol-F type diglycidyl ether epoxy resin and bisphenol F, and a modified resin (b) of the composite bisphenol type epoxy resin, and has 4,000-30,000 number average molecular weight and 3,000-15,000 epoxy equivalent.
