To provide a water-based coating composition that forms a coating film not causing falling off of and scratches on the coated film during the process of molding cans or caps and transport thereof by including a wax, has an excellent dispersion stability of the wax in the coating and avoids a poor appearance of the coated film due to a poor dispersion stability of the wax.
The water-based coating composition includes (A) an aqueous dispersion of a wax in which the wax is dispersed in an aqueous medium using a nonionic surfactant with a number-average molecular weight of 600-4,000 and an HLB of 8-16, and at least one of anionic surfactant selected from among sulfonates, carbonates, and alkyl sulfates as the emulsifier, and (B) an aqueous dispersion of a modified epoxy resin.
