To provide a water-based ink composition which is excellent in preservation stability and continuous discharge stability.
The water-based ink composition comprises: at least water; a water-soluble polymerizable compound polymerized by an activity energy line; a water-insoluble coloring material; and a compound, having a repeating unit and an acid group, represented by formula (1). (In formula (1), R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent group. J represents *-CO- ,*-COO- ,*-CONR10- ,*-OCO-, a methylene group, a phenylene group, or a *-C6H4CO- group. R10 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group. W represents a single bond or a divalent linking group. A1 represents a heterocyclic group or a group represented by formula (2).* represents a site bound to a main chain. In formula (2), any one of R2 to R5 is removed to bind to W in formula (1), and three except the one each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent group. Q1 represents an atom group necessary to form a ring together with a carbon atom.).
