To provide a water-based pigment recording liquid having high gloss and scratch resistance of a black colored image on a glossy medium and excellent storage stability of aqueous pigment recording liquid itself in combination and to provide a method for inkjet recording with which the black colored image having higher gloss and scratch resistance can be formed on the glossy medium by using the recording liquid.

The water-based pigment recording liquid is obtained by dispersing carbon black and an anionic group-containing styrene-acrylic copolymer in an aqueous medium containing a basic substance and water. The water-based pigment recording liquid is characterized as follows. The copolymer has 10,000-40,000 weight-average molecular weight and 50-150 acid value. The basic substance is an alkali metal hydroxide. The 20° gloss value of a print when carrying out solid printing on the glossy medium is 10-100 gloss units and (the gloss value/haze value)×100 is 3-15.
