To obtain a sound-insulating coating material applicable by automatic spraying and excellent in the ability to follow the contour of an irregular surface or a vertical surface and adhesion, and which consists mainly of a water- dispersible polymer emulsion and an inorganic filler and is characterized in that the specific gravity of a coating film after dried by heating has a specified or higher value.
This coating material is characterized in that the specific gravity of a coating film dried by heating is 1.0 or above. It is desirable that the coating film has a loss factor of at least 0.05 as measured at 20-60°C in a film thickness of 2 mm. The aqueous dispersion polymer may satisfy the requirements that it has a loss factor of at least 0.05 as measured on a coating film prepared by applying and drying a coating material containing the polymer at 20-60°C in a film thickness of 2 mm and is exemplified by an acrylic ester polymer, a styrene/acrylic ester copolymer, a styrene/butadiene copolymer or an ethylene/ vinyl acetate copolymer. The inorganic filler used is desirably a platy or flaky filler such as talc.
