PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for ophthalmic lens suitable for such a forming method that enables mass production at a low cost, to provide a production method for ophthalmic lens at high accuracy with good productivity from the material, and to provide an ophthalmic lens having excellent dimensional stability and durability.
SOLUTION: This water-contg. soft ophthalmic lens material is produced by polymn. of a methoxysilane compd. expressed by a formula: X-Z-Si(OCH3)n(R1)3-n and a polymerizable component containing ≥45mol% hydrophilic monomers having unsatd. double bonds which can copolymerize with the methoxysilane compd. but do not cause a crosslinking reaction. The lens material has substantially no crosslink. In the formula, X is (meth)acryloyloxy group, vinyl group, group expressed by the formula in the caption or allyl group, Z represents a direct bond or alkylene group having 1 to 3 carbon number, R1 is an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon number, and (n) is an integer 1 to 3. The formed body for a water-contg. soft ophthalmic lens and the watercontg. soft ophthalmic lens consist of the material. The invention also provides its production method.
