PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive water cut-off tape having a proper strength in drying and capable of exhibiting excellent water cut-off effect even in the case of having a space between core lines.
CONSTITUTION: The water cut-off tape comprises a nonwoven fabric containing 40-70%, preferably ≥50% of highly water-absorbing fiber having high water swelling properties and thermally embossed by heat-weldable fiber. As the highly water-absorbing fiber, a highly hygroscopic and highly water-absorbing fiber obtained by copolymerizing (A) a monomer having a carboxylic acid group, e.g. (meth)acrylic acid or maleic acid with (B) a monomer having a hydroxyl group and/or an amino group, capable of forming an ester crosslinkage by reaction with the carboxylic acid group, e.g. hydroxyethyl methacrylate or dimethylaminoethyl acrylate and (C) a monomer having a carboxylic acid alkali metal salt, and crosslinking the resultant copolymer with heat, capable of absorbing physiological saline in an amount of ≥1200%, preferably 1800 to 3000% and being ≥20% in hygroscopic property at 20°C and 60% relative humidity, is preferably used.
