PURPOSE: To dilute with water and improve the elasticity and safety in usage under adverse conditions by mixing a specific copolymer with a cross-linking resin.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymer (A) having a COOH group which is partially converted as required into a carboxylate group and/or an acid anhydride group and an OH group is obtained by copolymerizing (a) 4-25 pts.wt. (hereafter pts.) of an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid component selected from methacrylic acid, maleic anhydride or the like. (b) 5-40 pts. of a hydroxyalkylester of methacrylic acid having a 2-4C hydroxyalkyl part of (c) 15-55 pts. of olefinic monomer selected from an 8-12C vinyl or isopropenylbenzene or the like (substituted with Cl or an alkyl), (d) 20-80 pts. of an olefinic unsaturated monomer selected from acrylate or the like containing no OH group and having a 1-18C alcohol component and (e) 0-20 pts. of other mono- or poly-unsaturated monomer. Sixty to 90 pts. of the A component and (B) 5-40 pts. of a cross- linking resin are mixed to obtain the subject binder in which 30% or more of the OH group in the A component exists as a lactone modified type.
