To provide a water gas generating apparatus and a water gas generating method for generating a water gas by heating water vapor and for providing a continuous water gas flow to water gas consumption equipment.

The water gas generating apparatus (1) has heat storage objects (11, 12), and passage-type water gasification reaction areas (13, 14) arranged in series next to the outlet of the heat storage objects through which the heated water vapor is discharged. Fuel supply means (CHG, CH1, CH2, 43, 44) which supply a hydrocarbon fuel to the water gasification reaction areas are installed to the water gas generating apparatus. The water vapor is heated to a temperatures of 800°C or higher in its heat-transferable contact with the high-temperature heat storage objects. The heated water vapor is discharged into the water gasification reaction areas to react with a water gasification reaction.
