Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject water glass useful for the fixation of a coating agent and improvement in adhesiveness between the coating agent and a core line in a coated arc welting rod, capable of improving the coating performances of the coating agent to the core line when the coated arc welding rod is prepared and the falling off resistance of the coating agent, by specifying the electric conductivity of the water glass.
SOLUTION: This water glass for a welding material is made to have 1.0-7.0(S/m), preferably 2.0-6.0(S/m) electric conductivity at 25°C measured by a method prescribed by JIS KO101-1991. Namely, the coating performances of a coating agent to a core line is influenced not by a chemical component of a water glass (e.g. SiO2, Na2O, K2O and Li2O) but by the existence form of various ions present in the water glass and the existence form is investigated by the measurement of the electric conductivity. Consequently, when the electric conductivity is lower than 1.0(S/m), the amount of the free ions is excessively reduced and adhesiveness becomes insufficient and when exceeds 7.0(S/m), the amount of the free ions is extremely increased and the coating performances are deteriorated.
